ARTS AND CULTURAL INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS

The Cultural Council of Indian River County announces the publication of its Arts & Cultural Guide 2020-2021, a testament to optimism and resiliency in the cultural arts community. The popular 12-month guide is a singular reference for residents and visitors to plug in to events, exhibits, concerts and classes happening throughout the county and throughout the year. Anyone can pick up the Guide at the Cultural Council office located in the Flametree Clay Art Gallery, 2041 14th Avenue, or around town at various locations including;

  • McKee Botanical Gardens

Performances & Events

Thank You Concert on November 22, 5:00pm at First Presbyterian This outdoor “Thank You” concert will feature members of the award-winning Youth String Orchestra, including special student soloists and small chamber groups.  The performance will be held outside of the Center for Christian Life on the campus of First Presbyterian at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard in Vero Beach. 

Vero Beach Theatre REOPENED

The Vero Beach Theatre Guild, the longest running community theatre on the Treasure Coast, raised the curtain once again. The local theatre presents the hilarious Apron Series romp Things You Shouldn’t Say Past Midnight. Running on Friday evenings at 7:30pm with matinees at 2pm on Saturdays & Sundays through November 22. The Guild will close the 2019 – 20 Apron Series productions with Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize winning classic Death of a Salesman under the direction of Art Pingree. SEAN KENNEY’S NATURE CONNECTS® Made with LEGO® BRICKS at McKee Botanical Garden

This beautiful, inspirational exploration of art and nature is set to open November 13 – April 25, 2021. An award-winning and record-breaking exhibition that uses beautiful works of art made from simple toy blocks to explore animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and mankind’s relationship with nature.  Come explore the beauty and wonder of Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO® Bricks, open Tuesday – Saturday (10am – 5pm), Sunday (Noon – 5pm). The last admission ticket is sold at 4 pm. Tickets are available to purchase at McKee Botanical Garden and at www.mckeegarden.org

Keeping the Arts Alive at Raw Space Gallery

Gallery will be open to the public for viewing. Enjoy fine art in this spacious gallery. This exciting show runs through November 29th.

  • November 21, 5:00 – 8:00pm “Honoring Our Heroes in Medicine” Special presentation at 6:00pm. Medical professionals are encouraged to attend.
  • November 22, 2:00 – 5:00pm A Great American Art–JAZZ! Enjoy a night of music of some of the greatest names in Jazz while viewing fabulous works of art. This show features local, national and international artists of every genre. 
  • November 23, 3:00 – 6:00pm Oil Portrait Demonstration Portrait Demonstration in oils by Judy Burgarella, with Model Bobby De Mario.
  • November 24, 4:00 – 7:00pm A Salute to our Military and Veterans Current and former military invited, along with the public.
  • November 29, 1:00 – 3:00pm Children’s Christmas Party with Santa. Santa will talk about life in the North Pole, and there will be a Christmas Carol sing-along. Children’s book signing by Author Camy De Mario. There will be a character sketching class by Camy. Refreshments, candy canes and other tasty treats will be served.
  • November 29, 4:00 – 6:00pm Christmas Event. Christmas Party for Artists, Guests and the Public. Presentation of “People’s Choice” Award. Refreshments. Gallery open for viewing.
An Outdoor Revolution exhibit by Brian

An Outdoor Revolution is here! Now on display at the Environmental Learning Center. Photographer Brian LaPersonerie will have his amazing nature photography on display in the Lagoon Room until November 22. His nature photography is showcased on metal prints and features images of wildlife, nature scenes and outdoor lifestyle shots. The images in “An Outdoor Revolution” aim to transport you to the healing reality of the great outdoors.  The Environmental Learning Center is open Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibit is Free with Admission. Artist Guild Gallery fundraiser “Baubles for Breast Cancer” During November and December, Artists Guild Gallery is holding a fundraiser “Baubles for Breast Cancer” in honor of Mary Beth McDonald, and others that have or have had breast cancer. Beautiful “Hand Painted Earrings” are for sale with all profits going to the charity that Mary Beth is arranging at MD Anderson Hospital, in Houston, Texas, where she is currently receiving treatment. Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County.   The Cultural Council’s AIPP Program, in partner with Vero Beach Regional Airport in the Passenger Lounge waiting area presents. Art For Art’s Sake –  Art in Social Isolation.  During this period of Social Distancing caused by the pandemic, the Cultural Council initiated a project as an attempt to see how creative individuals in the area responded to it. It has been almost 6 months since ART FOR ARTS SAKE’s inception…and we have been continually receiving wonderful images of work created by area Artists. Memories of places near and far…happy times spent with family and friends…pride and patriotism of Country…these are several of the themes that are resonating at this time.  On View through January 1, 2021

Music at the Watering Hole! Families are sure to love Music at the Watering Hole, a free online concert film brought to cyberspace by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Mendx Studios and Central Florida author, Michele Wallace Campanelli. The concert is now available online and can be viewed by clicking the link below. Friends of the North IRC Library – CLASSIC FILMS WITH A TWIST! Virtual VersionClassic Films has moved to ZOOM. View the movies on your own at home using our free HOOPLA system at the Library or any way you can. Then join online for a ZOOM discussion of the film with Joe Gramm, The Movie Man. Following the discussion take part in a Movie Trivia Contest with prizes for the winners. VBMA Exhibition Avery to Warhol On view through – January 3, 2021

The VBMA Avery to Warhol is an exhibition of our new Senior Curator, Anke Van Wagenberg’s selections from the vault. The exhibition will showcase a recent gift to the collection, Henry Hubbell’s Portrait of Three Sisters. From this 1903 painting, we will virtually travel through the twentieth century from the paintings by Milton Avery to Andy Warhol and not only contemporary masters but also selections of the glass collection of the VBMA. Environmental Learning Center is presenting a new and exciting event  Indian River’s Got Talent!

Now accepting submissions from all ages! Submission deadline January 15, 2021. All types of talents accepted from youth in grades 12 and under. Categories for entry are based on grade level or age:

  • Elementary school – Kindergarten thru 5th grade
  • Middle school – 6th thru 8th grade
  • High school – 9th thru 12th grade
  • Adult Division – ages 18 & Up
  • Combination Acts – family talent groups

Submit an up to a two-minute video of any talent suitable for public viewing. Submissions can be one person or up to as many participants you would like.  Please only submit one entry per person. Please email IRGT@DiscoverELC.org for questions.
