The 36th annual 2020 Vero Beach “Reverse” Christmas Parade was a huge success Saturday Dec. 5th, as an estimated 7,000 viewers in their vehicles drove by over 45 Floats & Displays, enjoying the Christmas holiday event. The 46 volunteers managed to keep the traffic flowing as happy faces and the many thank you’ s kept coming.
When the Christmas Parade was canceled on Ocean Dr., the Sunrise Rotary decided this town needs our Christmas Parade and designed a plan that was COVID safe and family fun. With the great cooperation from our City of Vero Beach, the Vero Beach Police Dept., the Vero Beach Airport, Recreation Dept. the plan was set in motion and in 35 days an awesome event was overwhelming attended.
A special thanks to all the volunteers, Floats/Displays and spectators that made this happy event.
There were over 45 entries competing in 3 categories: Organizations, Businesses and Schools.
Organization—-1st Place = Grall-Dugan Beach Party; 2nd Place = Lifeguard Association; and 3rd Place tie = Crossover Mission and Indian River Sheriff’s Association;
Business— 1st Place = DuBose & Son’s Jeweler, Inc.; 2nd place = Piper Aircraft; 3rd Place tie = Dyer Auto & Rosner Motorcraft and
School—1st Place= Vero Beach High School Band; 2nd Place tie = Master’s Academy of Vero Beach and Vero Beach High School Lacrosse Team.

I heard it was great. And it was a great idea. Unfortunately, we missed it. We were one of the hundreds of cars still waiting in line when they stopped allowing entry. Also, they could’ve used more officers directing traffic at key intersections, such as US1 and Aviation Blvd. Hopefully, next year we’ll be back to normal on Ocean Drive. If not, I hope they do the reverse parade again.
