Vero Beach Dog Park reaches GuideStar goal

news release

GuideStar is the world’s largest source of information on nonprofit organizations. Millions of people use GuideStar to make their decisions about the social sector using GuideStar Nonprofit Profiles populated with information from nonprofits, the IRS, and other partners in the nonprofit sector. And, GuideStar data is available on over 200 philanthropic websites and applications.

A few years ago, the Indian River Community Foundation encouraged the Vero Beach Dog Park to reach the Silver Level of Transparency on GuideStar. Earlier this year, the Dog Park reached its goal of reaching the top Platinum Level. Of the 1.5 million non-profit organizations on GuideStar, this is a distinction shared with only 11,710 others who have reached this top level.

Vero Beach Dog Park continues to be a great success. According to dog park president Bob Joy “In 2020, the dog park remained open for our patrons and their dogs. People were encouraged to wear masks and social distance. Our dog park leadership has received heartfelt thanks from many patrons for remaining open. Especially for those who live alone, the dog park is a place where they feel safe while enjoying their dogs and the company of others.”

The Vero Beach Dog Park is managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. While the property is leased from the City of Vero Beach, it is 100% privately funded and maintained. Joy said “We appreciate the partnership we have with the City of Vero Beach. Our Board’s sound administration, and the continuing generosity of a community that values and loves their dogs, guarantees that the Vero Beach Dog Park will continue to thrive and be well-maintained in the years ahead.”

This month is the 7th anniversary of the dog park. It is the only free public dog park in Vero Beach and the only leased city property that does not charge for services. The dog park is located on Indian River Drive East in the City of Vero Beach. To learn more about Vero Beach Dog Park go to www.verobeachdogpark.org
