April 23 & 24, Headliner Janet Williams AKA :”The Tennessee Tramp” has a high-energy ADULT CONTENT show packed with jokes about men and women issues, menopause, dating, prejudice, weight, love, and sex (and a lack of it)… the whole sha-bang! Opening act Amy Dingler, a former rodeo clown, bullfighter, and stunt person who decided to move on to something riskier and switched to stand-up comedy. She is funny, likable, and edgy all at the same time.

“Spring Back” Art Reception, The Galleries at First Pres

April 25, 4 – 6pm. Featuring the works of newly featured local artists Joyce Simonton-Clamp and Michele Loftus-Trzcinski. Welcomes back more beautiful works by Donna Ware. The galleries are located throughout the campus of First Presbyterian Church at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard in Vero Beach. Admission is free. Masks and Social Distancing are required while on the church campus.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents Rhapsody in Blue & Bolero on April 25, 3pm at Vero Beach High School PAC.

Grammy-winning pianist, Jeffrey Biegel returns to Central Florida to join the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra for Rhapsody in Blue & Bolero. Concert to feature works by Gershwin, Ravel and Fuchs.  Biegel will perform Spiritualist, a concerto in three movements by SCSO favorite collaborator and Grammy winner, Kenneth Fuchs. Biegel will further dazzle audiences with his performance of George Gershwin’s immensely popular jazz classic, Rhapsody in Blue. The concert will conclude with Maurice Ravel’s astonishing one-movement masterpiece, Boléro, based on a Spanish musical form and dance Ravel deemed “insistent.” https://spacecoastsymphony.org/events/

Vero Beach Theatre Guild 63rd Season offers Sister Act.  Sister Act is the feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony—and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, this uplifting musical tells the tale of a woman hiding in a convent who helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own. A.E.Backus Museum & Gallery presents”60 for 60”

Special Presentation TOP: Anniversary Invitational Exhibition. On View through April 25.  The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery, in celebration of the Museum’s 60th Season, will present an invitational exhibition of the 10 past winners of the top awards from The Best of the Best fine art juried show and Through the Eye of the Camera juried photography show. The invited artists will share a body of six works each in a wide variety of media.

SEAN KENNEY’S NATURE CONNECTS® Made with LEGO® BRICKS at McKee Botanical Garden

On exhibit through April 25. An award-winning and record-breaking exhibition that uses beautiful works of art made from simple toy blocks to explore animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and mankind’s relationship with nature.  Come explore the beauty and wonder of Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO® Bricks, open Tuesday – Saturday (10am – 5pm), Sunday (Noon – 5pm). The last admission ticket is sold at 4 pm. Tickets are available to purchase at McKee Botanical Garden and at www.mckeegarden.org

Artists Guild Gallery ~ Student Art Exhibit. For the month of April, Artists Guild Gallery will host an art exhibit by the student artists. Teachers Sue Dinneno, Dawn Mill, and Rita Ziegler are proud to present their students’ amazing art in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. On View through April 30, Tues – Sat, 11am – 3pm. Located at 1974 14th Avenue, Vero Beach.

Melissa Mastrangelo’s Buoy Motel

Gallery 14 presents A LIFE IN THE SUN: Retro Acrylics by Melissa Mastrangelo.  On View through  April 30, Gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday 10am – 5pm & Saturday 10am – 4pm.  Melissa often incorporates other media into her acrylic paintings, such as mid century ephemera and spray paint. Some of her favorite subjects include old neon motel signs, vintage surf vans, beaten up nautical buoys and other rusty objects that had once marked a moment in time. These symbols of a simpler life offer the viewer some comfort in the midst of an ever changing world.

VBMA Exhibition ~ Chul Hyun Ahn: New Light

On View through April 30. This exciting exhibition of the Korean artist Chul Hyun Ahn creates mind-bending sculptures that conjure illusions of infinite space. Drawing from Op Art and light-and-space traditions, as well as theories of the subconscious, the Baltimore artist explores the immersive, illusory possibilities of reflection. VBMA Exhibition ~ Poetry of Nature: Hudson River School Landscapes

from the NY Historical Society.  On View through May 2.  A stunning array of over forty paintings from the New-York Historical Society’s Collection by Hudson River School artists will be on view for the first time at the Vero Beach Museum of Art..  Painted between 1818 and 1886, the works illustrate America’s scenic splendor, as seen through the eyes of some of the country’s most important painters.

H.A.L.O.’s ~ Chase Your Tail , 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run on April 24.  The 5K will start at 7:30am on April 24, at Sebastian’s Community Center and travel along the beautiful Indian River. Same day registration opens at 6:30am. Join H.A.L.O. No-Kill Rescue’s Chase Your Tail 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness for no kill animal rescue! The event is for runners, walkers, and their dogs! Fun for athletes, beginners, kids and dogs all while raising money to save lives!

Call to Artists

Visit Indian River County (www.VisitIndianRiverCounty.com) and the Cultural Council of IRC are working together to showcase local artists and their work.

In April, Visit Indian River County launched an Artist Spotlight Series of blog posts with the theme, Indian River County: Through The Artist’s Eye. Each month the blog page will spotlight one artist with a bio, a brief Q&A and images of their work that are inspired by living on the Treasure Coast. This will be promoted across the social media platforms of both Visit IRC and the Cultural Council, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn. The deadline for submissions has been extended. Please email Elise@Cultural-Council.org with up to five (5) examples of locally inspired artwork and your contact information. Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County has some Exciting news! We will be shaking things up a bit as we prepare to change out the current exhibit in the IRC Administration Buildings. No particular theme – artist’s choice.

  • Building A will be a Group Show – Please submit up to five (5) images for consideration.
  • Building B will be a Solo Show – If you would like to be considered for the solo installation, please submit a minimum of fifteen (15) and a maximum of twenty-five (25) images. Depending on the size of the artwork, a selection will be chosen to fit the available space.

Please email your artwork to Elise@Cultural-Council.org by the deadline, Monday, May 17, including the Title, Medium, Size and Price. Thank you!
