Impact of Young Journalist program

news release

The Young Journalist organization, an initiative of a Vero Beach, FL. 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization, has mentored 94 first, fourth and fifth graders on how to become a journalist, from September, 2020 thru July, 2021.

Here are the statistics of the “Impact” of the Young Journalist since 2018.

Number of students mentored.

2018 – 2019 = six students / Glendale Elementary

2019 – 2020 = seven students / Liberty Magnet

23 students = Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation

2020 – 2021 = 47 students / Indian River Academy, Liberty Magnet, Rosewood Magnet, Treasure Coast Elementary and Fellsmere Elementary.

16 students = Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy (10 1st grade students; six fourth and fifth grade students.)

31 students = Rosewood Magnet and Liberty Magnet summer camps.

Only one student quit, because his “girlfriend” was not in the class.  Out of all these students, only one student complained about wearing a mask.

Amazing.  94 students = 2020-2021, so far…, from six in 2018.

Based on extensive Young Journalist research, there is no other program of this kind in the United States.  In fact, the United States is one of the few countries in the World that does not require the teaching of media literacy.
