Program 1 “Tastemakers” January 13 & 14 promises a program of two choreographers who have greatly shaped our organization. Tastemakers will celebrate dance makers whose unique voices resonate through the dance world today. Ariel Grossman’s serene yet passionate Ori returns along with the long awaited main stage debut of her Rust (commissioned for Ballet Vero Beach), and Yves de Bouteiller’s supremely allegorical West Side Story Suite finally arrives to cap off this explosive program.

Vero Beach Theatre Guild offers Visiting Mr. Green Performances run January 13 – 29

Mr. Green, an elderly, retired dry cleaner, wanders into New York traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a 29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given community service helping the recent widower once a week for six months. What starts out as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving storyline as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing for years. Translated in 22 languages, with hundreds of productions in large and small venues, it has won numerous best play and best actor awards throughout the world.

Mike Block Trio at Vero Beach International Music Festival

January 14, 7:30pm, First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, 520 Royal Palm Blvd in  Vero Beach.

Mike Block Trio, featuring Zachariah Hickman (bass vocals), Joe K. Walsh (mandolin/vocals), and Mike Block (cello/vocals) will perform at Vero Beach International Music Festival. This performance will be FREE, with donations accepted to the Mike Block String Camp Scholarship Fund. Since 2010, world-class musicians from around the country have been gathering in Vero Beach to perform together in one-of-a-kind collaborations at the invitation of the Mike Block String Camp, held annually at First Presbyterian Church. Offering  three concerts each July, as well as a few in the Winter/Spring, comprising the Vero Beach International Music Festival. All performances are open to the public and FREE!

Atlantic Classical Orchestra at the Vero Beach Museum of Art:

Austrian Masterpieces January 15, 3pm

The fifteenth season of the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Atlantic Classical Orchestra celebrated partnership. You will not want to miss this intimate gathering of musicians. Tickets include admission to the galleries, so come early to take in the exhibitions.

The first performance features a string quartet and piano performing Austrian Franz Schubert’s famous Trout Quintet. This work represents Schubert at his most natural, unaffected and carefree style. In fact, this is truly music of Schubert’s innocence, as well as the sheer joy it communicates about the very process of making music. The program opens with fellow Austrian Franz Joseph Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 39 in G Major

On January 15 kick off the New Year with your Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra! Fourteen seasons and hundreds of requests have led to Fan Favorites: Jazz Edition, a concert chock-full of your favorites and requests.

Celebrating its 24th season in 2023, the Distinguished Lecturer Series at Riverside Theatre is Vero Beach’s premiere lecture series. Distinguished Lecturer Series is a forerunner in the presentation of relevant topics focused on national and global affairs and presented by distinguished experts who bring with them unique insight. There are two lecture times for each speaker: 4:00 and 6:00 pm, with a time of Q&A following the lecture. January 16 speaker is Secretary Mike Pompeo, Secretary of State 2018-2021.

VBMA Film Studies – Seeing is Believing

Seeing is Believing: Amazing Stories Based on Real People and Real Events

 Film lovers will find inspiration in learning true stories of people making their way in the world and facing life’s challenges with courage. As the old saying proves, “truth is stranger than fiction” and that’s never more evident than in this selection of fascinating films. One we’ll be viewing is Te Ata (2016), the inspirational story of Mary Thompson Fisher, a Native American Chickasaw woman who crossed many cultural barriers to bring her own brand of storytelling to the nation and to the world.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, (CMS) is one of eleven constituents of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex in the world. The Chamber Music Society has its home in Alice Tully Hall – the finest hall in the world for chamber music. Through its performance, education, and recording/broadcast activities, it draws more people to chamber music than any other organization of its kind.

AE Backus Museum & Gallery presents “Dashboard Dreams:

The Florida Highwaymen and the American Road”

On view through February 26. The next presentation of the 2022-23 season at the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery continues the annual series of special exhibitions celebrating the unique art movement that traces its beginnings to our community. Dashboard Dreams: The Florida Highwaymen and the American Road considers the iconic imagery and inspirational story of the celebrated artists in the context of the American auto industry of the era.

The Backus Museum is planning to present its annual favorite Highwaymen Celebration Weekend on February 17-19, featuring free admission during regular hours. Visitors to the Museum can enjoy a range of special offerings outside and inside. The highlight of the weekend takes place on the Museum’s Outdoor Mural Plaza, where people seeking to start or build their personal collections of Highwaymen paintings will be able to browse an impressive selection offered for purchase by professional dealers, specializing in the vintage works of these artists. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the current state of the art market and to explore owning an original work of art for your home or office. Dashboard Dreams will be on display inside, with free gallery talks for the public each day. The special exhibition expands upon the year-round display of Highwaymen paintings on view, a display which includes video excerpts from the award-winning documentary film “The Highwaymen: Legends of the Road.
