Art by the Sea Fine Arts & Crafts is a Prestigious Exhibition by Members of the Vero Beach Art Club and the Vero Beach Museum of Art. This is one of the most anticipated shows of the Vero Beach Art Club’s season. Held in the beautiful Holmes Great Hall at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, this show offers artists a chance to show one piece each of their artwork, all available for sale.

Russian virtuoso pianist Sergey Belyavsky & German violinist Christoph Seybold perform at The Emerson Center on January 22, 3pm. This benefit concert, sponsored by John and Anne Tschinkel, is to raise money for Voice for Children of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast. Free admission; a suggested donation of $20 will be accepted at the door. Doors open 30 minutes before the show.
Sergey Belyavsky is an award-winning pianist from Moscow, Russia. He has been a soloist with the Moscow State and Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed throughout the world in major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. Sergey, a political refugee from Putin’s Russia, is currently living in the US.
Christoph Seybold, born in Germany, is an internationally acclaimed solo violinist who performs regularly in major concert halls in Europe, America and Asia. Recent performances have taken him to the Schauspielhaus Berlin, Herkulessaal Munich, Leiszhalle Hamburg, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Opera City Tokyo, among many others.
Riverside Theatre presents Man of La Mancha ”Dream The Impossible Dream”
One of the most honored musicals of the American theater, Man of La Mancha was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th Century masterpiece, Don Quixote. Winner of five Tony Awards®, including best musical, Man of La Mancha is a powerful, funny, and heartbreaking musical celebrating the perseverance of one man who refuses to relinquish his ideals, and who is determined to see life “not as it is, but as it ought to be.” Performances run through January 22.

Seeing is Believing: Amazing Stories Based on Real People and Real Events

Film lovers will find inspiration in learning true stories of people making their way in the world and facing life’s challenges with courage. As the old saying proves, “truth is stranger than fiction” and that’s never more evident than in this selection of fascinating films. One we’ll be viewing is Te Ata (2016), the inspirational story of Mary Thompson Fisher, a Native American Chickasaw woman who crossed many cultural barriers to bring her own brand of storytelling to the nation and to the world.
E-Series at The Emerson: Ocean Exploration- Here Be Monsters
Speaker: Dr. Edith Widder on January 24, 7 – 9pm
Dr. Edie Widder is a MacArthur Fellow, a deep-sea explorer and conservationist. A world authority on marine bioluminescence, Edie has racked up hundreds of dives in deep diving submersibles, both as passenger and pilot. She has helped develop new tools for deep-sea exploration that have produced observations of animals and behaviors never seen before, including the first video of a giant squid filmed in its natural habitat. She has authored over 100 scientific papers and in 2021, a book: Below the Edge of Darkness: A Memoir of Exploring Light and Life in the Deep Sea, which the New York Times book review described as a “thrilling blend of hard science and high adventure”.
She has also spearheaded the development of water quality monitoring systems and new methods of mapping pollution. In 2005, in order to help protect the ocean she loves, she helped found the Ocean Research & Conservation Association. ORCA is a results oriented conservation organization that focuses on using facts to drive change.

Vero Beach Theatre Guild offers Visiting Mr. Green
Performances run January 13 – 29. Mr. Green, an elderly, retired dry cleaner, wanders into New York traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a 29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given community service helping the recent widower once a week for six months. What starts out as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving storyline as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing for years. Translated in 22 languages, with hundreds of productions in large and small venues, it has won numerous best play and best actor awards throughout the world.

AE Backus Museum & Gallery presents “Dashboard Dreams: The Florida Highwaymen and the American Road”
On view through February 26. The next presentation of the 2022-23 season at the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery continues the annual series of special exhibitions celebrating the unique art movement that traces its beginnings to our community. Dashboard Dreams: The Florida Highwaymen and the American Road considers the iconic imagery and inspirational story of the celebrated artists in the context of the American auto industry of the era.
The Backus Museum is planning to present its annual favorite Highwaymen Celebration Weekend on February 17-19, featuring free admission during regular hours. Visitors to the Museum can enjoy a range of special offerings outside and inside. The highlight of the weekend takes place on the Museum’s Outdoor Mural Plaza, where people seeking to start or build their personal collections of Highwaymen paintings will be able to browse an impressive selection offered for purchase by professional dealers, specializing in the vintage works of these artists. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the current state of the art market and to explore owning an original work of art for your home or office. Dashboard Dreams will be on display inside, with free gallery talks for the public each day. The special exhibition expands upon the year-round display of Highwaymen paintings on view, a display which includes video excerpts from the award-winning documentary film “The Highwaymen: Legends of the Road.
