news release
About 100 junior sailors and parents gathered on YSF’s waterfront campus on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, to recognize outstanding achievement over the 2025-26 school year.
Delta Perinei won the New York Yacht Club Sailor of the Year award. Established by Peter and Robert Brinkerhoff the trophy is presented annually to the sailor who “best demonstrates the Corinthian spirit in the sport of sailing”. Delta came to YSF as a beginner sailor through our Summer Sailing Camp in 2023. Rapidly progressing, she joined the race team in the Fall of 2025 and has never looked back.
The Corinthian Award won by Alaia is sponsored by Tom and Louise Kappus and is given to the sailor for exceptional sportsmanship following the Corinthian principles of fair play.
Alaia is a girl for all boats. Over the last four years, she has sailed Opti’s Lasers, Sunfish, 420’s and Hobbie Cats. She is currently in the Learn to Race class.
James Ewing won the Seamanship Award sponsored by Barth Construction and given to the sailor who exhibits outstanding seamanship skills – rigging, navigation, rules of the road and safety. James was in Miami taking the U.S. Sailing Level One course and examination. He passed! Now a U.S. Sailing Certified Instructor, James will qualify to serve as instructor during YSF’s upcoming Summer Sailing Camp. He came to YSF through the homeschool class and has been sailing for four years, the last two as a member of the Varsity Racing Team.
Bravo Zulu to Delta, Alaia, and James. That is the U.S. Navy signal for “well done”.
