The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will open their 18th performing season with style, swing, and a whole lot of personality, when its Jazz Orchestra presents, Sinatra & the Wonderful World of Oz on Sunday, June 21 at 3:00 PM. The concert at the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue in Vero Beach, brings together two unforgettable worlds: the wide-eyed wonder of The Wizard of Oz and the effortless cool of Frank Sinatra.
Andrew Cleaver leads the Jazz Orchestra, joined by Central Florida crooner, Mark Romeo. The concert starts off with Phil Wilson’s jazz reimagining of the treasured songs from over the rainbow, followed by the iconic “One O’Clock Jump,” the signature theme song of the Count Basie Orchestra. Then the program transforms into a live recreation of Sinatra at the Sands, the legendary 1966 Copa Room performance widely considered the greatest live recording Sinatra ever made. Guest vocalist Mark Romeo will sing the songs of “Old Blue Eyes” from that iconic night, including “Come Fly with Me,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “It Was a Very Good Year,” “My Kind of Town” and more. The rich sound of the live jazz orchestra promises an opening concert that’s stylish, magical, and exceptionally enjoyable. $35 tickets for Sinatra & the Wonderful World of Oz are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust branches. Tickets at the door are $40. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert. Andrew Cleaver, Space Coast Symphony Jazz Orchestra Bandleader, will preside over the concert that could be described as Big Band Meets the Yellow Brick Road. Cleaver toured extensively as the lead saxophonist for the Air Force’s Glenn Miller Band in Europe, before performing and recording with the prestigious Airmen of Note.
