Vote-by-mail ballots for the upcoming August 18 Primary Election have been sent out and will begin arriving in mailboxes over the coming days.  The Supervisor of Elections office mailed 17,434 ballots to voters who have a request on file with the Elections Office.

In addition, the Elections Office has already sent out 238 ballots to military and overseas voters so they have extra time to receive and return their ballot for the upcoming election. All Vote-by-Mail requests from prior years expired in December 2024.  Voters who have already submitted a request for a mail ballot should monitor their mail closely to ensure timely receipt. 

Voting by mail provides voters with a convenient and secure way to participate in elections from the comfort of their own homes.  To ensure your ballot is counted:

• Check Your Mailbox: Ballots are expected to arrive starting during the week of July 13
• Verify Your Mail Ballot Request:  If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot but have not received it, contact the Elections Office immediately
• Complete and Return Your Ballot: Follow all instructions included with your ballot.  Ensure the certificate envelope is signed and dated before returning it
• Submit On Time:  Return your ballot via mail, in-person drop-off at any early voting site during voting hours, or at the Supervisor of Elections office during regular business hours

For voters who have not yet requested a vote-by-mail ballot, it is not too late. The deadline for voters to request a ballot to be delivered by mail is 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. Vote-by-Mail ballots requests can be made online at VoteIndianRiver.gov or voters can call in their request at 772-226-4700.

Vote-by-Mail ballots must be returned to the Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.  The United States Postal Service recommends that voters mail their ballots at least one week before Election Day.  Supervisor of Elections, Leslie Rossway Swan wants voters to be aware that voted mail ballots may not be dropped off at Election Day polling places.
