Supporting special needs was on the minds of the committee in Indian River County, as the Dyer Difference Committee selected the Arc of IRC as its August Dyer Difference Award honoree. The organization, which was created in 1975 by a group of concerned parents and friends of special needs individuals, is the oldest nonprofit providing comprehensive services in Indian River County. Offering everything from supported living and employment to transportation, adult day training, and behavioral services, the Arc of IRC is truly a one-stop program that promotes independence, inclusion, and opportunity and currently serves more than 220 individuals locally.

A bonus Dyer Difference Award this month comes from Dyer Mazda and the group chosen to receive the special award was the Exchange Club of Indian River County, which sponsors a host of activities to improve the community, help children in need, and encourage good citizenship. In unanimous support of the group’s focus on preventing child abuse in Indian River County, the Dyer Difference Award Committee chose to honor the Exchange Club with a special Dyer Difference Award and $3,000 donation to assist with its efforts. 

The Dyer Difference Award is all about celebrating the beauty and kindness in our midst. For the Dyer family and the members of the Dyer staff, the award and the typical $6,000 in donations made monthly between the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties are all about helping to make a positive difference in the community. For the recipients, it’s an acknowledgement of their tireless efforts to do the same and a much-needed financial boost to help further their missions.
