Is “Baking” your Super Power? Do your friends rave over your cupcakes? It is time for the Jeane Graves Charity Cupcake Challenge; a fun competitive bakeoff to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. This event is Sunday November 5th at 2:00pm at The Heritage Center in downtown Vero Beach.
Bakers will compete in three divisions; Professional Baker/Restaurant, Individual Bakers and a Junior Baker Category for ages 8-14. Take advantage of the early entry fees of $10.00 for Individual and Junior Bakers and $15.00 in the Professional Baker/Restaurant division if registered by October 5th. The baker entry deadline is October 27th with fees of $15.00 for Individuals and $30.00 for Professionals to participate. Bakers can enter more than one cupcake. Contestants are to bring 5 dozen cupcakes made with standard 2 ½” cupcake papers and all cupcake decorations must be edible. One dozen will be displayed and the rest of the cupcakes are cut into bite sized pieces for tasting and voting by attendees.
Tickets to the Cupcake Challenge are $10.00 and can be purchased at the door. Ticket holders will receive ten votes to use for their favorite cupcakes. Cupcakes can be tasted by the ticketholders beginning at 2:00pm.
Winners will be announced as the judge votes are tallied. Prizes will be given in each division for Best Taste, Best Decoration and Voters Choice Best Cupcake in the Category. One cupcake will be awarded Best Overall Cupcake 2017.
Cupcake bakers are asked to submit a brief (75 words or less) paragraph about themselves or their Bakery/Restaurant that can be used for publicity purposes before and after the Cupcake Challenge. Interested bakers should message the event on Facebook or call or text 772 473 3410 to have an entry form e-mailed. Checks can be made out to Michael J. Fox Foundation. Deadline for completed entry form is Friday October 27th. The form, contestant information and entry fee can be dropped off at Law Office of Julia Graves, 2205 14th Avenue in Vero Beach, FL or mailed to Cupcake Challenge, Care of HGX, P O Box 6190, Vero Beach, FL 32961.
Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through an aggressively funded research agenda and the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s. The Cupcake Challenge is hosted by the family and friends of Jeane Graves. After a teaching career, she enrolled in the Indian River State College Culinary Program, became a chef and owned her own restaurant Hibiscus Coffee and Tea. Jeane retired after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and this is the eighth year the event has been held in her honor.
