The Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue, will launch its Florida Humanities Series on Thursday, October 12 at 7 pm.  The 2017-18 season kicks off with a nostalgic and revealing look at the 70-year history of the Dodgers baseball team’s relationship with Vero Beach. On October 12, Craig Callan, Vice President of Historic Dodgertown, will recall how local businessman Bud Holman and other neighbors overcame obstacles to launch a Spring Training home for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Upcoming lectures are Florida’s Greatest Hurricanes (November 9);  Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society (December 14); Sean Sexton will discuss the Sexton Family in Vero Beach (January 11);  Ersula Knox-Odom will appear in character as Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune (February 1) and radio journalist Janie Gould presents a program entitled “Global Events That Touched Florida: Great Depression Through Cold War.” (March 29). Founded in 1937, the Sebastian River Art Club is celebrating its 80th Anniversary with an art show and Reception Saturday October 14 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the SRAC Art Center, 1245 Main Street, Sebastian. Public is invited to enjoy refreshments, an art show of recent works by Art Club members, special recognition presentations, live music and free raffles of artworks! October 13-15th are the dates of this years Indian River Birding Festival and Nature Art Show. Pelican Island Preservation Society has partnered with Pelican Island Audubon Society to present the 2017 festival which is full of great birding tours, lectures, VIP Mural Dedication, and juried art show.  Visit to book tours. Heavenly classical and modern choral compositions will be offered by the Indialantic Chamber Singers when they present The Heavens Are Telling at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue in Vero Beach.  The annual fall concert by Brevard’s premier choral ensemble will feature music of reverence, praise and worship, in selections by composers Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, as well as Randall Thompson, Eric Whitacre and John Rutter.  The concert is free of charge, with a $10 suggested donation.  Visit or call (321) 426-0360. 

Theatre-Go-Round Dinner Theatre presents a new show, “That’s What Friends Are For” Celebrating the greatest hits by Dionne Warwick on Sunday, October 15 at the Quilted Giraffe.
