The Foyer Gallery of Art in the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue in Vero Beach features the artwork of May (Margaret) Brandt. Enjoying painting outdoors, May is exhibiting plein air paintings created locally. On view to October 31, gallery hours are Monday thru Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and on Sunday from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

The Environmental Learning Center’s “Half-Haunted Halloween” is a special fun-filled afternoon and early evening for the whole family on Friday, October 27 from 4 – 7 pm. Celebrate nighttime nature with eerie sounds, canoe quick trips through the Indian River Lagoon’s magical lighted mangrove tunnels, scary spiders and other Halloween nature crafts, touch tank encounters, pinecone bat races and many more spooky activities around the campus. The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will hold the annual Halloween Parade on Saturday October 28. Super heroes, princess’s, witches, goblins, ghosts and many other creative costumes will be meeting at the Vero Beach Women’s Club, 1534 21st Street, at 9:30 am to participate in the parade that begins at 10:00 am. Adults, children, families, and friends can participate with or without costumes. The marchers will route through 14th Avenue to the Vero Beach Community Center where the children between the ages of 0-17 will compete for the twenty five best costumes (with prizes for the winners.) There will be a silent auction to benefit the Recreation Department. Participate in the parade! Presented by Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach, the “Ring of Fire Chili Challenge” will take place Saturday October 28th from 4 to 9 pm at the Riverside Park “West” in Vero Beach. There will be over 20 chili entries to taste from local businesses, restaurants and independents. Sunrise will provide hamburgers, hotdogs and desserts for sale as well as drinks. The Jacks Band and Bobby Owens Band will be the evening’s entertainment. It is free to attend. You may buy tasting cups for $1 each.

Community Church of Vero Beach presents “Phantom of the Opera” Silent Movie and Organ Concert on Sunday, October 29 at 4 pm. Before talkies, organists and other musicians commonly accompanied silent films. Organist Andrew Galuska, Director of Music and Fine Arts at the Community Church of Vero Beach, has performed along with this film for a decade all over the country. Don’t miss this unique musical and visual experience! Enjoy an evening and a step back in time at this event. Admission is free, however a $10 donation is suggested.
