Today I have filed to run for the District 1 seat on the Indian River County School Board.
Residing in Indian River County for twenty-two years, I believe the School Board needs a change of leadership. A mishmash of policies has led to sub par student performance and many other serious challenges. The mismanaged health fund and exorbitant legal bills are telltale signs of serious managerial lapses.
At this juncture it is imperative that we have a fully engaged School Board.
Whilst serving two terms on the Sebastian City Council, I showed that principled pragmatic leadership can make a difference. Taxpayers deserve a fully transparent budget and there is no excuse for anything less. Reports from the District administration need to show substantiated results and not cherry picked statistics.
Neighboring school districts are out performing the District with smaller budgets. The national vegetable company I work for in Vero Beach has revenues of $470mm.As procurement director, my success is based on understanding real world value for money.
My wife Mary has taught high school science for more than a decade. I am alarmed at the escalating teacher turnover. To have successful schools we need a stable foundation of good teachers.
Our two sons Marcel and Eugene and our daughter Natalie attended K-12th grade public schools in Vero Beach and Sebastian. The quality of education that they received, prepared all three to go on to graduate from Ivy League Colleges.
I am asking the voters in Indian River County to elect me to the Indian River County School Board. Please allow me to put my experience to work and help return our School District to the high academic and financial standards of which we were once so proud.
