Vero Beach Life Guard Association Barefoot Beach Ball

NEWS RELEASE

Waldo’s Restaurant will once again host the fun and wacky Barefoot Beach Ball to benefit The Vero Beach Lifeguard Association.   The Barefoot Beach Ball will be held Labor Day Sunday September 2nd, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Last year the sold-out event had guests come dressed in formal attire with a silly spin.  Everything from bow ties with beach trunks to boas and bikinis were there, with flare!  This zany “barefoot black tie” event is fun for the whole family.  Guests will be treated to great music, a free cocktail, beach giveaways, and more. Fun activities are planned to keep the mood merry until 8:17 p.m. (sunset) when the “hunk dunk” puts the lifeguards in the water.  Then, all in attendance will simultaneously jump in the ocean still dressed in their funky finery.  Lifeguards will be manning the waters and great photo opportunities will ensue! Each year, the sax player of the band led the conga line into the ocean!  This event will help the lifeguards build their new guardhouse at Humiston Beach, which will enable the guarding of more beachfront that currently goes unguarded. Due to the huge popularity of this event, no tickets will be sold, but funds will be raised through sponsorships. You pick it auctions and food and drink sales, donated in part by Waldo’s Restaurant and Sysco foods.

Fundraising for VBLA, including the Barefoot Beach Ball, allowed restoration of 9 – 5 p.m. protection.  It also helped to increase the number of lifeguards hired, which previously minimized the rolling closures of protected beaches that occur due to understaffing.  Last year ATVs were made available at every tower so the guards can get to those in need, faster. The next vital step is to build the lifeguard tower at Humiston Beach to greatly increase effectiveness and view the busiest beach areas, serving both tourists and residents.  For more information please contact Donna Roberts at Idea Garden 772-778-2832 or Ideagardendonna@cs.com

This event is sponsored in part by Kmetz Nuttall, Elwell and Graham, Certified Public accountants; Planet Vero Radio/TV; Treasure and Space Coast Radio; Girard Equipment; and Southern Eagle Distributing.
