Multi-media artist Jill Kerwick will show new work at the Center for Spiritual Care in Vero Beach Feb. 1-22. The exhibition will open with an artist’s reception Friday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. It will be open to the public by appointment and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Entitled “Leaving Home and Other Stories,” the show will feature carefully staged, digitally enhanced multi-media collages. According to Center Director Carol Ludwig, “Her work takes on the character of dreams, each with its fairy tale-like story that remains just beyond our understanding.” Ludwig calls them “arcadian enigmas.”
“I use oil paintings for the backdrops,” Kerwick says. “I arrange objects in front of the painting using lady head vases (‘50s vintage ceramics) and my own farm animals. Then I decide what colors and attitudes are needed and I photoshop my body into the scene to complete the image.”
The results have earned Kerwick awards in many juried exhibitions. She has exhibited her work widely in the United States and Latin America. Her most recent museum show took place in 2018 at the Monmouth Museum.
The Center for Spiritual Care is located at the corner of 16th Ave. and 24th St., at 1550 24th St., two blocks north of the Main Library. To arrange viewings, call 772-567-1233.
