You are invited to the 2nd Annual “SDIRC Moonshot Literacy Lane” – fueled by The Learning Alliance – to support the Moonshot Moment Literacy Movement!
This Moonshot Literacy Movement project is brought to you by The Learning Alliance, in collaboration with the School District of Indian River County, the Main Library, and downtown Vero Beach businesses to promote the importance of reading and the power of family as a motivator for children to improve their reading skills and develop a lifelong love of reading.
The bookwalk is an innovative approach for families to model reading and engage with pre- and young readers while getting outside and enjoying a children’s book with a message we can all stand to remember.
The SDIRC, Pre-K and afterschool providers will participate in literacy-focused activities during Literacy Week prior to the Moonshot Literacy Lane Kickoff event on Feb. 2 from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
The walk is a one-mile loop beginning at the Main Library with stops at participating businesses in historic downtown Vero Beach.
At each stop pages of the book, “Ish” by Peter H. Reynolds will be on display for families to read together. This powerful book’s message highlights the power of encouragement and the importance of embracing and nurturing creativity within ourselves and others.
The Learning Alliance created a Moonshot Storytime video of the book so families can relive their wonderful bookwalk adventure from home. It can be viewed at youtu.be/g6gzfHyCWCY.
After completing the bookwalk stop by The Learning Alliance’s Moonshot booth in the Downtown Dapper Daze Kids Zone from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

About The Learning Alliance:
At The Learning Alliance, our work is predicated on the question – What does it take to achieve 90 percent literacy by third grade such that we create literate, compassionate, creative citizens who will improve our world? The Learning Alliance is a catalyst for innovation and collaboration supporting the Moonshot Moment 90 percent literacy transformative goal by arming front-line educators, parents, and community leaders with the tools, knowledge, and support necessary for success. Through innovative, evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, we empower teachers to transform children’s lives. Through partnerships with the School District of Indian River County, Indian River State College, community leaders and civic youth organizations in our community, we hope to create local solutions that can serve as a model for the nation.
