Film lecturer Diane Thelen and psychologist Allan Teger will present a weekly series of movies Wednesday evenings at 6:30 starting Feb. 6 at the Center for Spiritual Care in Vero Beach. The series, entitled “From Movies to Mindfulness,” will focus on motion pictures that deal with consciousness and the inner journey. Thelen will introduce each film and Teger will moderate a group discussion afterward.
“Mindfulness is a new buzzword,” says Center Director Carol Ludwig, “but the concept includes what we often refer to as spirituality and serenity. The films themselves are not necessarily directly about mindfulness, but each helps us see how our quest for understanding plays out in a variety of ways.”
Thelen has been the film studies coordinator at the Vero Beach Museum of Art since 2016. Teger’s Ph.D. is in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He taught social psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Scheduled to be shown in the series are “Tuesdays With Morrie,” “A Bottle in the Gaza Sea,” “Little Buddha,” “Lucky,” and “Amal.” Cost for the series will be $50. Legal licensing conditions restrict entry only to those who have signed up for the entire series.
