The Cultural Council’s Art in Public Places is showing selected works by Artist Registry Members on a rotating basis throughout the year at the Indian River County Administration Buildings at 1801 27th Street, Vero Beach.   In addition, a new exhibit of Landscapes, Seascapes and Florals by Rita Bianco Sprague is on view at the Indian River County Courthouse through May 9.  Hours for both venues are Monday – Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

THURSDAY,  FEBRUARY 21

The Vero Beach Museum of Art presents Fred Goodnight from the Space Coast Jazz Society at Concerts in the Park on Thursday, February 21 from 5 pm – 7 pm.  Bring your lawn chairs. Rain or Shine. Refreshments available for purchase. Members $10/Non-members $12.

Derek Gores.

Derek Gores will be creating a mural on 14th Avenue (in the alley between the tire company and Southern Social…it will be seen from 14th Avenue).  He is working on Thursday February 21 and will continue until he finishes on Friday the 22.   Gallery 14 will be having an Open House, with Derek in attendance, on Thursday February 21st from 5-7pm.  People will be able to watch Derek create the mural and then come to the Gallery (right down the street a bit) to see his extensive number of collages on display and speak with him about his work and about the mural.  This is an exciting event for the Arts District…the mural is sure to be spectacular.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY  22

The Sunrise Theatre  presents singer Darlene Love (He’s A Rebel, The Boy I’m Gonna Marry, Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home) on Friday, February 22 at 8 pm.  SunriseTheatre.com.

Main Street Vero Beach presents Downtown Friday on February 22 from 6 to 9 pm at 14th Avenue & 21 Street.  Enjoy live music, food and drink and visit vendors’ booths at this family and dog-friendly event.

The Garden Club of Indian River County, will dedicate the first Blue Star Memorial Marker to be installed on Friday, February 22 at 2:00 pm at the northeast corner of City Hall. The marker’s name commemorates the blue star in the center of the red and white service flags first used during World War I which were placed in the windows or on the front of homes to denote a family member was serving in the military abroad.

Vero Beach Fashion Week 2019 is holding a Fashion Show on Friday, February 22 at Walking Tree Brewery, 3209 Dodger Rd. in Vero Beach. VIP Tickets for the Fashion Show at 7:30 pm include: a VIP Makeup Experience, a seat at the Catwalk, Appetizers & Drinks. Enjoy music by DJ ReRe and a performance by J. SATURDAY,  FEBRUARY 23
Suzanne Fox

Suzanne Fox, writer, teacher, book consultant, co-founder and publisher of Stories of You Books will lead an adult writers Workshop, Memoir: Picturing Our Lives on Saturday, February 23 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Laura Riding Jackson Writing Center on 14th Avenue in Vero Beach. Photographs open the door to priceless memories. Using prompts and exercises this innovative workshop will help writers organize and deepen their work. Author Ardi Schneider will give a slide presentation on Saturday, February 23 from 10 am to 10:45 at the Audubon House Education Center, 195 Oslo Road in Vero Beach.  The presentation is about her new book, Anatoly Anole, The Boastful Brown Lizard  and lizards of Florida. Books will be given out to the first 5 children who arrive with an anole in a container! Fun for both children and adults.

The Ride Poverty Out of Town & Splash Party will be held on Saturday, February 23 beginning at 8 am at South Beach Park in Vero Beach to benefit United Against Poverty of Indian River County.  This is a cycling tour of the iconic Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway.  Participants may choose a route of either 40 miles or a full century (100 miles). This community-based event is planned in conjunction with the year-long celebration of the Vero Beach Centennial. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24
Space Coast Symphony string section.

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will celebrate a decade of music-making with a Ten Year Anniversary Gala concert at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 24 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue in Vero Beach.  The performance opens with Christopher Marshall’s Aue! (World Premiere) followed by Hindemith’s masterpiece from 1943, Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.  The concert closes with Belgian-French composer, Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor.  Miami-based artist, Christopher Maslow will reveal a newly commissioned piece of art commemorating the SCSO’s 10th Anniversary. The Distinguished Lecturer Series: On Monday, February 25 Kimberley Strassel, Member, Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal, will be the guest lecturer. The National League of American Pen Women, is offering a writer’s workshop by Evelyn Mayerson, Ed.D. on Thursday, February 28th from 10 am to 12 noon at First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.  The workshop is entitled: Elements of Good Storytelling, Hooking the Reader, Setting, Plot, Characterization, Dialogue and Voice Contribute to the writing of a Novel, Short Story or Memoir.  It is limited to 20 writers, RSVP to reserve your space.
