Centennial Aerial Antics Youth Circus

The Aerial Antics Youth Circus, it is a unique special event produced by the Vero Beach Recreation Department with more than 250 performers each year. The performers are ages 3 – 31 and are trained in various circus arts including gymnastics, dance, adagio and aerial acts. The Aerial Antics Youth Circus has been a part of Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Recreation Department since 1974. The Aerial Antics Youth Circus is all about community, family, fun and providing a special stage for every participant to have their “moment in the spotlight”. Location is Saint Edward’s School – Wachter Gymnasium
The Saturday matinee special production will showcase our year-round Aerial Antics Youth Circus performers. Featured groups are the Little Stars, the Dance Arts students, the Junior Entertainers, the Spotlights, the Performing Arts Troupe and the Performing Arts Company. The Centennial committee will be present and introduced to the audience.
The tickets for the special fundraiser on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. is $25 per ticket. Tickets/will be sold by calling the City Clerk’s office at 772-978-4700. This is a fundraiser for the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department. Tickets to the August 1, 2 & 3 – 7:00 p.m. performances will be sold at Leisure Square and Riverside Racquet Complex for $8 – adults and $7 – children (5 – 12) and seniors beginning June 3rd.

Poetry Contest by Laura Riding Jackson Foundation
The Laura Riding Jackson foundation invited all Indian River County students (categories for elementary, middle, and high schools) to enter the “Celebrate Where I Live” Poem contest by entering a poem that features an historical person, place, event, or industry that makes Vero Beach a special place to live. Winner will receive gift certificates from the Vero Beach Book Center; First ($100), Second ($50), and Third ($25) place winners awarded in each category (elementary, middle school and high school). Winning poems will be read at the RT Star’s Back to School Party, Saturday, August 3, from 8 am until 2 pm. Writing in verse. May include but is not limited to prose poetry, free verse, formal poetry, song lyrics, and spoken word.

Leisure Square Day-The community is invited to a “free” fun day at the City Recreation Department’s outdoor activity center on 16th Street. Families can enjoy coffee by Starbucks when the facility opens at 7 a.m. the use of the pool with lifeguards on duty, use of the exercise facility featuring a variety of new equipment, a yoga class by Annie at 10 a.m., the Aerial Antics Youth Circus performers at 10:00 a.m., a basketball clinic, turkey shoot at 11 a.m. on the basketball courts, and other entertainment and activities. The Recreation Department will serve free hot dogs and cold drinks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while the Mental Health Association in IRC will host an Ice Cream Social from 11:00-1:30 p.m. Sign up for gymnastic, fitness classes and membership for the gym.
