The Indian River State College Foundation recognized Deborah Liskin, Cosmetology Department Chair, with the Anne R. Snyder Department Chair Excellence Award. The accolade, conferred annually during the Foundation’s Faculty Welcome Breakfast and Awards, is presented to a department chair who exhibits outstanding leadership, contributes toward the achievement of the College mission, demonstrates curricular innovation, and is committed to student success and completion.

Liskin began her 24-year career at IRSC as a part-time institutional assistant in 1995. She began a full-time position with Student Affairs in 1997, and in 2001 added the role of Cosmetology Adjunct Instructor. In November 2005, Liskin earned a promotion to Cosmetology Instructor and Salon Manager, and was appointed Cosmetology Department Chair.

As Department Chair Liskin leads a successful team of cosmetology and barbering instructors on IRSC campuses in Fort Pierce and Stuart, and manages two full-service salons. She is proactive in procuring the technology and equipment that provide IRSC students with an innovative and effective learning environment, and she is a cheerleader for her students, making important community and industry connections to help get her graduates transition into sustainable careers.

“Debbie is dedicated to the success of our students and instructors alike,” shares IRSC President, Dr. Edwin Massey. “She is passionate about IRSC and that’s reflected throughout her Department. Debbie and her faculty strongly believe in guiding every student from registration to graduation, and then beyond, offering mentorship as their students become professionals.”

Liskin was selected from among nominations submitted by her peers—full-time and adjunct faculty members—and received a $1,000 stipend and commemorative plaque.

A Port St. Lucie resident, Liskin has active licensure with the State of Florida as a cosmetologist and barber. She earned her Certificate in Cosmetology and Associate of Arts Degree from Indian River State College, and her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Organizational Management from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
