news release
The Vero Beach Yacht Club (VBYC) is again inviting boaters from Vero Beach and surrounding communities to participate in its annual Blessing of the Fleet, November 12, 2022. The annual Blessing of the Fleet is a long-held tradition that began centuries ago in Mediterranean fishing villages to help ensure a safe and bountiful boating season.
Clergy from various denominations, along with the VBYC Officers and Directors, will gather at 3 p.m. November 12 on the VBYC’s T-dock and bless participating boats as they pass. Custom dictates that passengers on the boats throw flowers into the water and toward the clergy as they pass the dock.
Registration is not required. Boats will line up north of the Merrill P. Barber Bridge at Mile Marker 137 (Green) at 2:45 p.m. to proceed past the dock and be blessed. Participating vessels should monitor Channel #72.
