The National Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Watch for the east coast of Florida including Indian River County. Jason Brown, County Administrator, asks all residents to stay weather alert and engage in necessary preparations prior to Wednesday when it is expected that our area will begin to see deteriorating weather conditions.
The IRC Emergency Operations Center will open at 8:00 am Tuesday, at a Level 2, according to Ryan Lloyd, Emergency Management Coordinator. The Citizen Hotline (772-226-4000) will also go live at 8:00 am on Tuesday and staff will be available to answer questions until 5pm.
The EOC will transition to a Level 1 Activation on Wednesday morning, November 9, at 7am. Level 1 is a full-scale activation that engages primary and support agencies. The Citizen Hotline will also transition to 24 hours a day at that time and stay operational for the duration of the weather event.
Indian River County is expected to receive heavy rainfall, storm surge, and wind gusts of 20-25 mph as early as tomorrow afternoon ahead of the storm, which is now expected to arrive as a Category 1 Level Hurricane Wednesday night and into Thursday morning somewhere along the Treasure Coast. Residents are urged to put their preparedness plan into action.
Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
