VBMA HOSTS SECOND GLOBAL DIGITAL ARTIST EXHIBITION ART AFTER DARK
On view outdoors: December 16 – 17, 6 -8pm
Brett Phares, lead curator of Art After Dark, worked with the Museum team to arrive at the final selection of international artists whose original works celebrate digital art in its many possibilities. Each night will feature the same artwork but different works from last year’s event, utilizing the latest technologies projected onto the iconic white walls of the VBMA.
Outdoor projection art or digital art celebrates the possibilities found at the convergence of art and architecture. Artworks include illustration, experimental film, motion graphics, and large-scale digital video projection with sound.
Brett Phares is a New-York based artist and curator working in immersive art and the built environment. With 20+ years in interactive media, he has created innovative projects for both startups and international brands, all inescapably informing the visual syntax of his personal work. He earned his MFA from Hunter College in Integrated Media Arts, and MA in Art History, Theory and Criticism from SUNY Stony Brook. He has shown his artwork internationally; has written and taught on our habituated blindness of the everyday; is co-founder of Alys Beach’s annual light art exhibition Digital Graffiti, named by Smithsonian Magazine as one of top five immersive art experiences in the world; and founder of lightStruct, an immersive art/tech startup.
