The Alzheimer & Parkinson Association of Indian River County announces a new series of programs and workshops to be held throughout Indian River County during the month of May. The programs, all of which are free of charge, are offered to those with memory and/or movement disorders and their caregivers.
Upcoming programs include:
Newly/Early Diagnosis Dementia– Tuesday, May 2 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This new class covers education for someone diagnosed with dementia, including: stages of dementia, getting educated, how to share the diagnosis with others, adjusting, and planning for the future. Location: Brackett Library, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.
Newly/Early Diagnosis Movement Disorders– Tuesday, May 9 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. This new class covers education for someone diagnosed with a movement disorder such as Parkinson’s, including: stages of Parkinson’s, getting educated, how to share the diagnosis with others, adjusting, fall prevention, and planning for the future. Location: Brackett Library, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.
Total Memory Workout– Wednesdays beginning May 10 through May 31 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. Designed for the cognitively well senior, this four-week class offers individuals an opportunity to learn about memory, a brain-healthy lifestyle, and how to practice “memorcises” to build memory muscle in eight easy steps. Location: Indian River North County Library, 1001 Sebastian Blvd, Sebastian.
Warning Signs of Dementia– Tuesday, May 16 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Are you worried about your mental sharpness? Forgetfulness can be a normal part of aging…or is it the onset of dementia? Join us to explore what the warning signs of dementia are. Location: Brackett Library, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.
Warning Signs of Parkinson’s– Tuesday, May 30 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Have you noticed a slight shaking or tremor in your hands? Are you having trouble walking lately or are you no longer smelling certain foods? Join us to explore what the warning signs of Parkinson’s are. Location: Brackett Library, 6155 College Lane, Vero Beach.
