news release
The Wheels and Keels Foundation, Inc. was established in 2015 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to “provide funding to selected local charities whose activities strive to improve the lives of children in the Treasure Coast community.” Since its inception, the Wheels and Keels has donated over $ 800,000 to local charities.
At the 16th Annual Charity Fundraising weekend in April 2026 Wheels and Keels recognized The Young Journalist as their only new charity. According to Board Member Derek Stalhut, “We selected The Young Journalist because of the unique nature of its program.”
The Wheels & Keels Foundation currently provides financial support to seven other Treasure Coast charities.
The mission of The Young Journalist is to nurture intellectual curiosity and instill a lifelong love of reading and writing. It is to have students understand that journalism is an art form, like painting, that tells people to people about things that really happened that they may not have known about. It is to educate its readers.
Support and marketing for the Wheels and Keels Foundation is provided by Charlotte Tripson (the great-granddaughter of Waldo and Elsebeth Sexton) and The Moorings Yacht & Country Club.
