A voter registration fraud complaint against Vero Beach City Council candidate, Charlie Wilson, has, after initial review by the Florida Department of State’s Division of Election, been referred to the State Attorney’s Office for further investigation.

Vero Beach resident, Dian George, who filed the complaint against Wilson, received a letter today from Division of Elections Assistant General Counsel, Jordan Jones, notifying her of the action.

“We have reviewed your complaint regarding the alleged voter registration and voting activity of Charlie Wilson,” Jones wrote. “This is to inform you that we are referring your complaint for further investigation to the State Attorney’s Office.

Wilson, who became a resident of Vero Beach some time during the period of August/September 2013, and who needed to have established residencey within the city as of Sept. 5, 2013 in order to qualify to run in the 2014 Vero Beach City Council election, claims he moved into the apartment on Aug. 20, 2013.

However, the lease Wilson signed required that he pay in full six months of rent, totaling $3000, before he could take occupancy of his apartment at 2134 18th Avenue.  Wilson paid the $3000 installments, with a final payment on Sept. 19, 2013. On that same date, the utilities were transferred to his name. City records note the transfer was made due to a “move in” on the 19th of Sept. by a Mr. Charlie Wilson.

George’s voter registration fraude complaint against Wilson centers around the fact that he went to the Supervisor of Elections Office on Aug. 21, 2013 and switched his registered address from an address in the county to 2134 18th Avenue. George questions whether Wilson could have been a legal reside of 2134 18th Avenue as of Aug. 21, 2013, if  he did not, at least according to his lease, have a legal right to reside at that address until Sept. 19, 2013.

  1. Hopefully Dian George will get swifter action that I did in filing my voter fraud complaint. In June of 2013 Jordan Jones advised that “we found the allegations to be legally sufficient to refer to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.” This organization then spent an entire year on the criminal investigation and concurred in ALL of my identifcations or illegal and unethical behavior. The recommendation for arrest and prosecution was made by the FDLE lead investigator, his supervisior and the Division of Elections. . The State Attorney has done nothing.

  2. Will history repeat itself? He may not get the chance to serve 30 days this time because his election chances do not look good. His behavior such as yelling ,finger pointing are causing his former supporters to stray away from him. He did it to himself ; he has no one to blame but himself. Charlie’s past history will not work in his favor.

  3. Why did he move from the city in the first place?

Is he THAT ashamed to live there?

He DID have 5 years to straighten his act out, and clearly isn’t even capable to get that right.

  4. Pat Lavins confuses “doing nothing” with disagreeing with her that nothing illegal occurred. The State Attorney’s office reviewed the case prepared by the FDLE and decided it did not have merit and they would not go forward with any charges. They informed the FDLE that the case was closed. The FDLE then informed Lavins and others involved that the case was closed and no charges would be filed. This was not “nothing”. This is how our legal system works. In this case it worked perfectly as no voter fraud occurred. Justice was served.

  5. You are totally right. Pat Lavins assumes guilty until proven innocent. In this case, the legal system worked, as you said. Ms. Lavins is beating a dead horse so to speak and has no facts on her side but continually makes up new allegations.

  6. A message to:Cate Wenzing, Linda MacDonald and an alert to the States Attorney General, Is it possible that the elections will be over before the truth comes out? Who can run? Who can’t run? If they run and they win, and if they violated the law why doesn’t the law exercise priorities in dealing with these situations? As far as Pat Lavins is concerned if she is right about the Candidate Corey Westbrook why did this ugly issue go so far? Is she right, is she wrong? Why is it I do not see any campaign posters from Westbrook, but I see plenty from Rothblatt? Please advise the candidates you would support in the Vero Beach race for City Council, and for the Congressional race of Westbrook, Rothblatt or Posey?
