First Presbyterian welcomes singers from Troy University for Gospel Festival

Troy University Gospel Singers performing for Rosa Parks’s funeral in Montgomery,AL.

The 2019 Concert Series at First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach will present the Troy University Gospel Singers on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 7:00pm as part of a Community-Wide Gospel Festival. The finale concert for the festival will take place Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 4:00pm. All events will be held in the sanctuary at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach. Both concerts are free to the community; a $10 donation is suggested.

The Music and Arts Department of First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach will collaborate with local churches, community choirs, and the Troy University Gospel Singers (TUGS) for this two-day Festival. The guest conductor and clinician for the weekend will be the Assistant Professor of Choral Music at Troy University, Dr. James Brown. The Troy University Gospel Singers, a select group of musicians from the John M. Long School of Music, will perform a special concert of their own Friday evening, March 29, at 7:00pm.

All singers are welcome to attend the Gospel Festival and final performance. On March 30, rehearsal will take place in the sanctuary from 9:00am to 12:00pm, followed by lunch, and another rehearsal from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. The concert will begin at 4:00pm in the sanctuary. The music will feature Gospel and Spiritual works by composers such as Richard Smallwood and Andre Thomas, among many others. Admission to this concert is also free, and a $10 donation is suggested.

An active adjudicator and clinician, Dr. Brown has directed choral workshops and conducted festivals throughout Ohio, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, and Europe. Dr. Brown is active in state and national organizations and has presented at state and international conferences. Currently, Dr. Brown serves as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Youth and Student Activities for the Alabama ACDA collegiate choral festival. In addition, he is a vocalist and assistant conductor of Festival Singers of Florida, a highly select, annually-auditioned ensemble consisting of women and men from throughout Florida and the Southeast.
