The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has released its data on the economic impact of public airports in Florida showing that Vero Beach Regional Airport ranks among the top airports in the State.

In a study just released, based on data collected from 116 of Florida’s 129 public-use airports, the FDOT has determined that the Vero Beach Airport generates annual total employment of 5,522 jobs, including direct, indirect, and induced impacts, with a total labor income of $338,820,000 and total business sales of $1,321,201,000 ($1.3 billion). This is a significant increase from the FDOT’s last study (2014), which calculated an economic impact of $468 million. Due to the increase, Vero Beach now ranks in the top 15 percent of Florida airports studied, including large hub airports at Orlando ($41.1B), Miami ($33.2B), Fort Lauderdale ($20.8B), and Tampa ($14.5B).

Other airports that are in the vicinity of Vero Beach were also included in the study including the public airports at Melbourne ($2.8B), Stuart ($786M), Fort Pierce ($509M), and Sebastian ($54M). All results may be viewed at the FDOT’s Aviation Office website:

“This FDOT study shows the tremendous community value that comes from supporting businesses like Piper, FlightSafety, Elite Airways, Sun Aviation, Corporate Air, Paris Air, C.J. Cannon’s, Treasure Coast Air Services and many others, all located at Vero Beach Regional Airport. We’re pleasantly surprised to see such a positive increase in our overall economic impact and grateful to our many employers,” said Eric Menger, Airport Director.
Mayor Val Zudans said, “I’m very proud of Eric Menger and his team’s many successes in creating an environment where private business focused around aviation can thrive and create the opportunity for high-paying occupations for our citizens.”

The Vero Beach Regional Airport is owned and operated by the City of Vero Beach. For more information about the airport, visit us at http://www.verobeachairport.org.

  1. As a former Piper Aircraft dealer in Wisconsin some 20 years ago before moving to Vero, I can attest to what a fabulous job Eric Menger has done with making our Vero airport one of the crown jewels of our small town. Aviation Day every year overseen by Eric is the highlight of the year for aviation buffs for miles around. THANK YOU, ERIC!
