The Cultural Council of Indian River County’s popular Arts & Cultural Guide to be distributed in September is now accepting events for inclusion in the 2019-20 Guide. Events must occur from October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020. THROUGH THE EYE OF THE CAMERA AT BACKUS MUSEUM
The A.E. Backus Museum and Gallery, 500 North Indian River Drive in Fort Pierce is proud to present the 2019 Through the Eye of the Camera juried photography exhibition, featuring more than one hundred of the year’s best photographs by professional and amateur photographers from across the Treasure Coast and beyond. CELTIC PRAYER BEAD WORKSHOP
On Friday, May 24 from 9 am to 3 pm, the Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24 Street in Vero Beach, will host a Celtic Prayer Beads Workshop with Judy Kahler-Jalbert. Learn to make ancient Celtic Prayer Beads and how to use them to meditate and draw closer to God. Ret. Rev. Judy Kahler-Jalbert will share how to use the beads as a spiritual tool. (Packaged prayer beads are available for $15 and up). Participants are encouraged to bring special medals and/or crosses to be incorporated in their beads. Cost: $35 donation. SCSO TO PERFORM COSMIC TRILOGY
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will close its 10th Anniversary season with the multi-media, Cosmic Trilogy at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 26 at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. Celebrating the achievements of NASA, Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins will conduct the orchestra in a program reprising highlights from the innovative film trilogy The Planets, Earth Odyssey, and most recently, The Cosmos. The SCSO program will feature breathtaking images of far distant galaxies, nebulae and other astronomical wonders captured by cutting edge instruments on earth and in the heavens. The audience will hear selections from Holst’s epic The Planets, Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra, and Dvorak’s popular New World Symphony. During Cosmic Trilogy, the orchestra will also showcase composer Christopher Marshall’s The Cosmos, which conceptualizes the origins of the universe. $25 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org. Tickets at the door are $30. The Cosmic Trilogy concert is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID.
The City of Vero Beach Centennial events continue with the City Tree and Beautification Commission recognizing the day the City was incorporated in 1919 with a Tree Dedication at MacWilliam Park on Sunday, May 26 at 1:30 pm followed by a Family Day Celebration in Riverside Park from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

The Vero Beach Elks Lodge,1350 26 Street is having a Memorial Day BBQ of boneless pork ribs, baked beans, potato salad and corn on cob on Monday, May 27 beginning at 4 pm. The Veterans Council of Indian River County’s Memorial Day Ceremony will be on Monday, May 27 at 9 am at Veteran’s Memorial Island Sanctuary. Bring a lawn chair and plan to arrive early. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be held at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. On Memorial Day, visit the Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce at the Memorial Wall to honor those who have sacrificed all in service to country. Open to the public and free of charge, the Memorial Day Ceremony begins at 9:00 am, following the Flag Retirement Ceremony at 8:00 am. The Museum’s special Memorial Day hours will be 9 am to Noon. There is no admission fee to enter the Museum on Memorial Day.
