Kiwanis Youth in Action Build for Environmental Learning Center

NEWS RELEASE

Members of Kiwanis Youth in Action (KYIA) built 20 benches, painted two rooms and knocked down an old wall for the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) in Wabasso on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

In the pouring rain about 60 members of the Kiwanis Youth in Action team gathered at 8:00 a.m. in the ELC under the direction of Kiwanis members and volunteers. One large crew used power tools to build 20 visitor convenience benches for distribution around the ELC grounds. Smaller crews painted two event rooms, built work benches for kids, and knocked down an old brick structure. The initiating event for this KYIA project was a presentation by Barbara Ford, executive director of the Environmental Learning Center, to the Kiwanis Club of Vero-Treasure Coast about the ELC and areas in which it needs community support.

On March 29, 2020 a gala event, “Paint the Town,” will be held at the Vero Beach Yacht Club to support the Kiwanis Youth in Action programs.
