The Galleries at First Presbyterian present Fall 2018 gallery rotation

An opening reception for the Fall 2018 Gallery Rotation of the Galleries at First Pres will be held Sunday, October 21, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm, at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach. Featured local artists include Henrimae Bell, Peter Coe, and Anne Whitney. Tours will be available with an opportunity to meet the artists, and light refreshments will be served in the Eleanor T. Smith lounge. This event is free to the community. The works will be on display from October 4 through December 31.

Peter Coe

Peter Coe grew up along the coast, from the south shore of Long Island, to coastal California and now Vero Beach. It’s no surprise that his love of coastal regions is reflected in his art. His paintings have been included in shows throughout the United States, including California, New Hampshire, and Florida. Most recently, his work has been seen at the Vero Beach Museum of Art and featured in a “Best of the Best” show at the A.E. Backus Museum in Fort Pierce, FL. “I look forward to the years ahead as I hope to grow and mature as an artist,” says Coe, “I take great pleasure from the sense of peace I receive through my art. My hope is that the viewer will enjoy some of that experience as well.”

Anne Whitney was an art instructor at St. Edward’s School for many years before retiring in 2014.

Faces have always held Anne Whitney’s interest. As a child, she found faces in everything from clouds to the grain of wood on a table. She enrolled inprivate art classes in the seventh grade and her love of art continued from there. She went on to become an art teacher, beginner her career in New Jersey. In 1982, she moved to Vero Beach where she became the art instructor at St. Edward’s School until her retirement in 2014. Now, a happily retired Anne enjoys the time and space to explore her talents. “Finding movement and energy in the model or composition is the most liberating, fun part of the process”, says Anne. She feels strongly that artists should be allowed to stray from the “hard and fast rules” and use their creativity to their advantage in the process toward a meaningful conclusion.

The Galleries at First Pres feature a wide variety of works by local artists, on rotation quarterly throughout the year. The Galleries are located throughout the campus of First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach; they are open for viewing from 12pm to 3pm, Monday through Thursday. Guided tours are available Wednesdays between 3pm and 5pm. Admission is free and open to the community.
