The Indian River Medical Center (IRMC) hospitalist program bridges the gap between the inpatient and outpatient setting. At IRMC, the hospitalists are experts in the management of hospitalized patients, and offer inpatient medical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
A hospitalist is responsible for all aspects of the patient’s care while admitted to IRMC and communicates with the patient’s primary care physician throughout the hospital stay. They are leaders in quality and safety and skilled in recognizing and minimizing potential hazards such as unnecessary testing, medication errors, and hospital-based infections. The providers do not have outpatient practices, allowing them to be available to meet with specialists and family members in a timely fashion.
The Department of Hospital Medicine is one of IRMC’s largest departments and includes more than 30 physicians and advanced practitioners. Due to the program’s popularity and need, Indian River Medical Center recently welcomed physicians Lauren Applehof, DO; Trevor Applehof, DO; Brendan Filardo, MD; Angelica Quintero, DO; and Jessica Ramirez, MD; along with advanced practitioners Martine Apollon, APRN; Pamela Brown, APRN; Guerdine Mercy, APRN; Tiffany Minnis, APRN; Mariastella Perez, APRN; and Patricia Rahal, APRN.
