Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup July 23

news release

IRC Coastal Staff is gearing up to participate in the Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup on July 23rd. We will be cleaning up 125 miles of waterways in Martin, St. Lucie & Indian River Counties. Please sponsor or volunteer for this great community event. Since 2008, we have engaged more than 12,260 volunteers and more than 3,150 boats to remove more than 95.45 tons of trash from the waters of the Treasure Coast.

This event is for all ages; perfect for students, service clubs, yacht clubs or anyone who wants to be part of the solution to pollution. The cleanup begins at 8 am and all waste needs to be returned to the staging area by 12:30pm.

Treasure Coast Waterway Cleanup will provide the necessary equipment at each staging location.  Each team will select their cleanup location at the staging area.  TC Waterway Cleanup will have Lost Tree Island Conservation Area as one of the cleanup sites. The team members will need access to the islands via boat or personal watercraft. Each staging location will have dumpsters available for disposal.  If we finish the cleanup of LTICA early, each team may select a second location if you choose.  We will need teams in the water and on boat to clean up the shallow areas adjacent to the islands and on foot to clean up the islands.

Remind your team members to bring a reusable water bottle, a water cooler, bug spray and sunscreen.  Wear clothes and closed toed shoes, which can get wet and dirty.  You may also want to recommend a face buff, sunglasses and a hat.

If your team has not signed up, it is not too late.  One person from each team can register the entire team, pick the staging location and select shirt sizes OR each person on the team can register independently.  The closest staging area is the City of Vero Beach Marina.

Coastal Division and Conservation Lands staff is eager to see everyone on July 23rd.  Please let me know if you have any questions as we get closer to the cleanup.
