IRC wins excellence award in financial reporting

news release

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has named Indian River County as a 2020 Triple Crown Winner.  GFOA’s Triple Crown designation recognizes governments who have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, for a fiscal year. The County’s fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th. The Triple Crown Award was instituted in fiscal year 2019 and this is the second year that the County has received the designation.

Indian River County is one of just 317 governments to receive the Triple Crown for fiscal year 2020.  “I am very proud of staff, both in our own Office of Management & Budget, and in the Clerk of the Court Comptroller’s division,” said Jason Brown, County Administrator.  “This is an achievement that exemplifies team work at every level.”

“This award is a testament to all of the hard work that the Clerk’s Comptroller and County’s Budget staff consistently display. I am very proud that Indian River County is being presented this award for the second consecutive year. ” said Jeffrey R. Smith, Indian River County Clerk of Court and Comptroller.

The Triple Crown designation represents a significant achievement.  To qualify, each entity must meet the high standards of all three separate award programs.  Each award program recognizes governments that produce reports which communicate their financial stories in a transparent manner and meet applicable standards.
