arts & entertainment

The Young Journalist organization has recently published a 165-page magazine of their student’s articles written since the beginning of the school year in October 2025.  There are 139 articles in the magazine written by students from Dodgertown, Beachland, Rosewood, Glendale, Fellsmere, North County Charter, Imagine South Vero, and Indian River Academy elementary schools, as well as Gifford Middle School.

The student’s articles range from “The Whitewashing of Native Americans,” to K-POP Demon Hunters and Pop Rocks, to “The Whimsical, Wonderful World of Weird,” focusing on Mary Anning and Louis Agassiz.

Writing is a critical life skill – one of the four main literacy skills children learn. The Young Journalist nurtures intellectual curiosity and it is our practice to have our students read about what they are curious about and then write about what they read.

Students have not only learned to write but also have learned the basics of journalism and those who developed it…Broadcast journalism, undercover journalism, Gonzo journalism, photojournalism and many more…Nellie Bly, Walter Cronkite, Joseph Pulitzer, E. B. White.

The publishing of this 2016 magazine is a celebration of the hard work our students have done since October 2025 to May 2026 to produce their work for this new magazine.

The Young Journalist is a 501 C 3 nonprofit organization.
