news release
Today, the Indian River County (IRC) Public Works Coastal Engineering Division announced that Wabasso Beach Park will be closed to the public beginning the evening of Friday, February 4, 2022, to continue construction for the Sector 3 Phase 2 Beach and Dune Restoration Project. The Contractor will lock the gate that evening following the park closure, and will mobilize into the park on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
All beach construction activities and on road sand deliveries will start on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Wabasso Beach Park and move South.
Pre-construction surveys are currently being conducted to determine the amount of sand material needed based on existing conditions. Current estimates predict that approximately 40,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed on the beach to complete this portion of the Sector 3 Phase 2. Wabasso Beach Park will reopen following completion of construction activities.
On-beach construction is continuing out of Turtle Trail Beach Park until April 30. Seagrape Trail Beach Park temporarily reopened on January 20, 2022, while there is no beach construction activity taking place. However, Seagrape Trail Beach Park will need to temporarily close at a later date to make minor repairs to the asphalt areas that were damaged during construction.
Project updates and beach park closures are available on the IRC website at http://www.ircgov.com and social media platforms as they become available.
