IRMC breast cancer lecture explores symptoms, diagnosis and treatment

breast-cancer-ribbonBreast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is a little less than 1 in 8. About 232,340 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2013, according to the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Kathleen Havlin, associate professor, Division of Medical Oncology, Duke University Health System, and Dr. Edward Murphy, board certified general surgeon at IRMC, will co-present a free community education lecture on breast cancer on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 4-5:30 p.m. “A Woman’s Discussion on Breast Cancer” is an informative discussion that will assist in learning the signs and symptoms to aid in early detection of this disease and its treatment.

Light refreshments; space limited. This free community service is held in IRMC’s Medical Conference Room on the first floor, 1000 36th St. For reservations, please call 563.4459.
