Deputy saves woman and animals from house fire, his third lifesaving event

Ryan, RobIn the early morning hours of July 3, 2014, a 911 call was received at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Dispatch regarding a house fire in the 500 block of Poinciana Circle. The caller, Sherry Weinstein, said that she fell asleep and forgot that her stove was on. Weinstein also told the dispatchers that she was very worried about her cats being inside. Weinstein disconnected with our dispatchers and returned into her residence to try to retrieve her cats.

Deputy Rob Ryan was dispatched to the residence and arrived shortly after the 911 call. When he arrived, Deputy Ryan entered the smoke filled residence and found Weinstein unresponsive on the floor. Deputy Ryan carried Weinstein out of the residence while also safely escorting her cats out of the residence as well.

Ms. Weinstin stated, “He saved my life. I am so emotional about this. I want to do something special for him.” This is Deputy Ryan’s third lifesaving event. Deputy Ryan has been employed with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office for six total years of service and is a veteran, having served with the United States Marines.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “We are very proud of Deputy Rob Ryan and his accomplishments here at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. Our men and women put their lives on the line every day and this is a perfect example of how our agency excels.”
