NEWS RELEASE
As the summer matures, amateur baseball settles into its final phase, while football takes its first breath towards fall. Early August at Historic Dodgertown will feature a nice overlap of both sports as individual prospects, travel baseball teams and a Georgia powerhouse football squad take to the campus fields.
Baseball Factory, one of the nation’s premier baseball skills camps, began their four-day Pro Select Training and Tournament on July 31st. Nearly 140 ballplayers from 28 states and Puerto Rico will endure intense physical and fundamental training, along with scrimmage games, to both improve skills as well as better position themselves for recruitment and visibility. In the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft, 324 Baseball Factory alumni were selected, including the 1st and 2nd overall picks.
The Historic Dodgertown All Star Classic gets underway Monday, August 4th, as the second week-long tournament this year. Participating in the 14U, 16U and 18U age divisions, teams include representation from Louisiana, New Jersey and Canada, along with state-wide Florida squads. The week-long tournament format is in its first year of execution, whereby teams and families utilize the experience for both vacation and game play.
Also beginning this week, the facility welcomes back The Westminster School football squad from Atlanta, Georgia. For 13 out of the 14 years it has been given, Westminster has been awarded the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association’s Directors Cup – an honor given to the best athletic program in the state. Westminster is proud to have earned more sports state titles than any other high school in the state, including two in football. In 2013, Westminster was named the winner of the MaxPreps Cup, given annually to the best high school athletic program in the state.
Rounding out the busy week, Historic Dodgertown will also play host to the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Networking Luncheon on August 6th in the Stadium Club Lounge.
